Roseland Oaks to FALLEN Oaks

this does not begin to describe the damage and fallen oak trees in the neighboorhood
i grew up in, Roseland Oaks.
above is a lost tree in front of my aunt's house...she had two feet of water
inside from the storm surge.

you can't grasp the amount of HUGE trees lost in these photos.

we were checking the status of my Nan's house....
it was ok besides trees on swing and on the power lines.

luckily everyone was fine....i am blown away by some of the devastation in Galveston, however
and would love to be able to help.
We will be calling a volunteer hotline tomorrow to see what we can do.

Master Bath

i needed something on the wall above the tub......so i gathered unused items.....and i love it.
i had gotten this stick in Leakey, TX when we went to the river....i rummaged thru stick piles from a flood until i found one i liked......it is sooooo pretty....i was planning to spray paint it but i think it looks nice in this room with the wall color so ill leave it alone for now.

me likey.

JKs office

so a few weeks back i painted the office that gray color (in bamboo) and updated by spray painting anything Brass (uhg) to "rubbed bronze" well....you know, faux.
the blue accent wall looked bland so i slapped up some giant bamboo to spice it up.
i think i like it. i dont love the room over all but for what i have to work with....it works.

Majestic Oak

My family has this thing of Loving trees (not as in tree huggers, we just think they are so beautiful)......my love of them is probably the most severe..... especially big knarly oaks.
i told my mom her entry was boring and needed a tree......she loved the idea. then i tht it would be cool to go walk the golf course they live on and find one worthy of a tribute.
......so here's a shout out to the split trunk oak on hole 13 !!! you're a real LOOKER.

there are some branch hooks at urban outfitters that we will put on a few of the branches for visiters to hang their coats on "the tree"

Celebrate LIFE.

the mysterious sky poured a wonderfully fragrant and refreshing RAIN. it was dusk....a perfectly warm summer evening. no thunder or ANY sound....but RAIN.
i stood on my porch with a thankful grin realizing what a fragile gift
L I F E is.
it is here today. for some it may be gone tomorrow.....but it is a gift.
there are reasons beyond our control for ALL the mystery of it.

a favorite quote, related if you have seen this great movie....
"....get into the deep beautiful melancholy of everything that's happened."
Claire in Elizabethtown

GO...and live.

Viva Agave!!!

.......she's finally finished.....i may have started this about a year and a half ago....im not sure....but anyhoo, i felt motivated to finish it today. I looked at a close up pic of an agave cactus.
....have i mentioned I LOVE CACTI !!!!?

she's not perfect when i look at her...but then again, who the hell is? :)

ps....if you look close you can see some strange texture that does not correspond with the agave...it has a painting under it that i botched and i repurposed the canvas. this makes it have an extra special meaning to ME.....

"We all have things under our pretty outer shell that we are not proud of, but we can hold our heads high, and put our best assets forward....or we can bury that sh*t and never speak of it again. "
(kidding....the prior is definitely a better line) ;)

Go Go Jeni MINI

.....so i have a new mabe-not-so-practical-but-really-if-you-think-about-it, - it-is-crush
on this car. A MINI Cooper. .....gets like 800 miles to the gallon compared to my beast of a Yukon getting ....oh, a mere 12- 16 on a good day.....the engine sure sounds fierce tho. ;)
The MINI has amazing safety ratings...it is like a little steel cage!
Eliza and I would have a blast.
We're shopping for one, but still giving it a lot of is-this-right-for-us thought.

NEVER a bad hair day

This is one of my favorite things in my house!! I have so much fun choosing her new doo.
She is from www.wisteria.com
I love this catalog!!

Eliza's Swirly Curly "E"

I painted Liza's room the richest, darkest brown....and I ADORE it!! The walls seem to fall away in the distance and the room feels huge. Here is her fun mural. The E is iron and stands about an inch off the wall (looks painted, but is not)

a tree mural for a good friend!!

.....so to say the least, I was so honored that my very chic friend, Melissa in Austin asked me to paint a huge tree in her laudry room. She had a super great idea of continuing the tree outside the window indoors so she could enjoy it. I LOVED the idea but was so nervous to do it for such a great friend. If they did not like it.....then what....we go to their house all the time. They are so laid back and completely trusted me.......so we went for it. Unless they are really good actors, I think they totally love it.....I so hope they are honest peeps!!
We did not want it to look like it was trying to be realistic (like something in the church nursery or at a children's hospital) so we did not give it leaves and I made it a very whimsical shape. Miss loves circles so circles we gave it. It is in the laudry room so we started calling it the Bubble Tree.......perfect.

Anyway, I think it is really groovy and im looking for a spot in my house to put one!!

Thanks sooooo much ya'll! can't wait to hang out soon.

dont forget to water your BUBBLE TREE ;)

Auctioned latest Longhorn painting

This 12 x 16 painting is probably my favorite one that I have ever done. It is unofficially Bevo XIV (for University copyright reasons)....so I named him Texas.

It was so hard to see him go, however he was put in an auction to raise scholarship money for

The Texas Exes Chapter of Brazoria County. It was the second most expensive item in the auction....second to something signed by about 70 of the all-time greatest UT athletes, so Im super happy about that......anyhoo.....I am sooooooooo proud. He went for $550

I am offering giclee prints of this handsome fella if any real UT fan is interested.
